What is a TMJ Disorder?

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders are conditions affecting the jaw joints and surrounding muscles and ligaments. It can be caused by trauma, stress, bruxism, an improper bite, arthritis, or wear and tear. Common symptoms include jaw tenderness, headaches, earaches and facial pain. There are a few different ways to treat TMJ disorders.

Have you ever considered Botox therapy for TMJ?

When you think of Botox, you probably consider it a beauty-enhancing product that gets rid of wrinkles and fine lines in the face. But consider what Botox does — it temporarily prevents nerve cell signals from reaching your muscles and reduces abnormal muscle contractions. Dentists find Botox to be useful at relaxing muscles in your jaw, as well. Botox has a long history of medically therapeutic uses, all involving muscular conditions. Currently, Botox is used to treat over 20 different medical conditions, and there are more than 6 million Botox treatments administered each year.
